MINUTES
THE ASPEN HILL CIVIC
ASSOCIATION, INC.
23 February 2011
The
meeting was called to order by President Alexandra Minckler at 7:32 P.M. at the Aspen Hill
Library.
Present at
the meeting were board members: Robert Clarke, Don Eimer, Marguerite Eimer, Rusty
Embrey, Alexandra Minckler, David Polinsky, Florence Polinsky, Linda Robbins, and
Bill Shelton. Also present was Mimi
Liu.
The minutes
of the January 2011 meeting were approved.
Treasurer David
Polinsky presented a financial report summarized as follows:
Balance
as of: 19 January 2011: $5046.24
Income
from dues: $33.00
Balance
as of 23 February 2011: $5079.24
Mr. Polinsky
also reported the organization currently has a paid membership of 63 families
and 50 individuals.
Rusty Embrey
submitted a bill for $59.97 for the printing of bumper stickers that are to be
used to correct the signs used to advertise general association meetings.
A discussion
took place on the associationŐs meeting signs. Rusty Embrey reported
difficulties in attempting to recover the 3 signs currently in the possession
of former board member Dwayne Holmes.
Alexandra
Minckler and Rusty Embrey volunteered to attend a county meeting in which the
new Code Enforcement laws are to be explained. It was suggested at that time
that our next general meeting would be a good time for county representatives
to present a brief summation of the laws and their changes.
Mr. John
Lymangrover sent a letter to the board requesting itsŐ support for the
installation of speed humps and a stripped crossing on Turkey Branch Parkway near
the entrance to Matthew Henson Park. A motion by Rusty
Embrey not to support this action was passed. Other traffic calming methods
were recommended such as the Smart Awareness radar speed trailer.
Alexandra Minckler
introduced the topic of county sidewalk work. She mentioned that when the work
was recently done in her neighborhood the workers left the grass strip between
sidewalk and street a mess. It was
decided to contact the county agency responsible to determine if they would be
returning to return things to their previous condition.
PepcoŐs
unsatisfactory response to the recent lengthy storm power outages was the next
topic of discussion. It was decided that the board send a letter to our county
and state politicians in support of any actions they might take to remedy
PepcoŐs unsatisfactory performance.
David
Polinsky reported that the Hiker-Biker trail over Veirs Mill Road was now open.
It was
decided that the board would not meet during July or August, and that board
meetings in the future would start at 7:00 PM with the general membership
meetings continuing to meet at 7:30 PM.
The meeting
was adjourned at 8:27 P.M.
The board
will next meet on Monday 21 March at 7:00 PM.
Respectfully
Submitted
Robert Clarke
