MINUTES

THE ASPEN HILL CIVIC ASSOCIATION, INC.

19 JANUARY 2011

The meeting was called to order by President Alexandra Minckler at 7:36 P.M. at the Aspen Hill Library.

Present at the meeting were board members: Robert Clarke, Rusty Embrey, Alexandra Minckler, Carol Petzold and Bill Shelton.  Also present was Vicki Schmidt.

The minutes of the December 2010 meeting as presented by Carol Petzold were approved.

The Treasurer David Polinsky sent in a financial report summarized as follows:

Balance as of 15 December 2010:  $4884.24

Income from dues:  $149.00

Income from donations:  $13.00

Balance as of 19 January 2011: $5046.24

Mr. Polinsky also reported the organization currently has a paid membership by 62 families and 48 individuals.

Mr. Polinsky also indicated that meeting facilities rental had been secured through June for the following dates:  23 February, 21 March, 13 April, 18 May and 13 June.

A discussion took place on the associationÕs meeting signs. Rusty Embrey reported that she had arranged with ASI Printing for the printing of an overlay for the signs to reflect the change in the meeting day.  The bumper sticker overlays are to be available at the February meeting.  She also said that an attempt will be made to recover the 3 signs currently in the possession of former board member Dwayne Holmes.

Rusty Embrey also volunteered to contact the Gazette newspaper to have notices regarding the civic association activities placed in community information section.

Carol Petzold reported that the recently formed Neighborhood Watch organization has been having very well attended meetings. Information from those meetings of value to the community at large is to be posted on the civic association web site. She also shared information provided by board member Patti Walker regarding the recent rash of burglaries on Russett Road and on Briarwood Terrace. The police have determined that they are being carried out during daylight hours by two different groups.  The police want citizens to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhood.

An inquiry was made about the disposition of the vacant commercial properties formerly the site of the Super Fresh store and the BAE office building, both located near the intersection of Aspen Hill Road and Connecticut Avenue.  It has been determined that the properties are owned by Lee Development which has not responded to inquiries made by board members.

President Minckler informed the group that planning for the May general meeting was to take place at the March board meeting.

In response to a question regarding the association cards President Minckler reported that she was in possession of the copy that is to go to a printer. A brief discussion was held during which several inexpensive printing alternatives were presented.

Vicki Schmidt indicated that her Wheaton Woods neighborhood was having parking problems because of the heavy use made of Wheaton Woods Park athletic fields for soccer games. With no on site parking at the park its users are forced on to neighboring streets, often to the exclusion of the residents.  She was advised to contact the park office, the police, and the county council to inform them of the neighborhoodÕs concerns. She was told the AHCA would support her in her endeavors.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 23 February 2011 at 7:30 PM.

Respectfully Submitted
