Dear Neighbors,

The Aspen Hill Civic Association has been around for over 30 years, and in that time, its members have worked tirelessly for the benefit of our community.  Our mission has been three-fold:

Given the rapid changes taking place throughout our county, volunteer organizations like the AHCA are now more important than ever before.

For example, the collapse of small newspapers has made it very difficult for residents to stay on top of local events and policy proposals.  Our public schools have faced immense challenges since the pandemic, and much work remains to be done to guarantee a quality education for all, in a safe and supportive environment.  Big changes in housing, planning, and land-use are coming, and well-funded developer interests should not be the only voices our public officials hear.  Taxes and budgets are always hot topics, and communities need advocates who can ensure that their needs aren't overlooked.  And last but not least, challenges like energy use and climate change will require us all to "think globally and act locally".

The AHCA Board and & I have therefore made it our goal to grow the association, and keep our neighbors connected and informed.  We have been revamping our website, increasing our presence on Facebook and Nextdoor, and organizing community events, like our Spring General Membership Meeting (May 17th) and our National Night Out event (August 1st).  We have been developing relationships with other civic associations around our area so we can work together whenever the need arises, and we will keep pushing for our elected officials to implement good policies.

I therefore invite you to join us so we can make Aspen Hill an even better community in which to live, work, and play.  There are many challenges before us, but many opportunities as well.  I hope to see you at our Spring General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, May 17th at 7:30pm, where we will cover these issues and more.  And as always, the Board and I welcome your ideas on how we can achieve our goals and better serve the ommunity.

Best regards,

Jamison Adcock

President of the AHCA
